Ground-Penetrating Radar Bucket for Excavators Now Available: Rodradar’s Game-Changing Technology

In a major step forward for the construction industry, Rodradar has unveiled its groundbreaking Live Dig Radar (LDR) excavator bucket, the first of its kind equipped with ground-penetrating radar. The new technology, designed to detect underground utilities during excavation, is now available for orders globally, with demand rising rapidly.

The LDR bucket was first introduced at ConExpo 2023, where it demonstrated its ability to scan the ground for utilities and provide real-time feedback to the operator. Developed with AMI Attachments, the bucket is compatible with most excavators and promises to improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in excavation projects.

Rodradar’s collaboration with Engcon to integrate the LDR bucket with its quick-coupler and tiltrotator systems takes this technology to the next level. By combining Rodradar’s advanced radar system with Engcon’s automation solutions, the new system makes it easier than ever for operators to avoid underground strikes while digging. The quick-coupler system will be available in the first quarter of the year, with the tiltrotator to follow later.

Operators using the LDR bucket will experience enhanced safety and efficiency thanks to its intuitive touchscreen interface, which displays information about the location, depth, and distance of detected utilities. Alerts are triggered when utilities are located, helping operators take immediate action to prevent costly and dangerous strikes.

This technology is already being used in real-world projects, including Skanska’s work at JFK International Airport. Contractors are receiving training on the LDR bucket to ensure they can fully leverage its capabilities for safer, more efficient excavations.
