Hyundai doubles its HX-A compact excavator lineup

HD Hyundai Construction Equipment North America has expanded its compact excavator lineup with four new models following the 2023 ConExpo debut of the HX-A series. The additions include the HX17AZ, HX27AZ, HX55ACR, and HX60A, bringing the total HX-A series models to eight.

All four new machines feature low-emission Tier 4 Final compliant engines. The HX17AZ is powered by a Kubota D902 diesel engine producing 16 hp, while the HX27AZ utilizes a Kubota D1305 engine with 24.4 hp. The HX55ACR is equipped with a Yanmar 4TNV86CT engine delivering 47.6 hp, and the HX60A employs a Hyundai DM02VB engine rated at 63 hp.

The HX17AZ and HX27AZ models are designed as zero tail-swing excavators, ideal for confined or busy workspaces, while the HX55ACR features a compact-radius design.

Jeff Pate, Vice President of Compact Sales at HD Hyundai Construction Equipment North America, emphasized, “Hyundai HX-A Series compact excavators set a new standard in compact equipment. These machines embody Hyundai’s decades of engineering and manufacturing excellence.”

Contractors have responded positively to the HX-A series, appreciating the comprehensive standard features included even in the ‘base’ models.

The HX55ACR comes equipped with a load-sensing hydraulic system as standard, which minimizes wear on hydraulic components, enhances reliability and efficiency, ensures easy operation, and reduces fuel consumption.

Both the HX17AZ and HX27AZ models feature conventional open center hydraulic systems. All four models include standard adjustable hydraulic flow control via a cluster, allowing operators to optimize flow for various attachments and switch between them using a two-way diverter valve.

Each model is equipped with a 127 mm full-color LCD monitor. Additionally, standard features across all models include boom, arm, and bucket cylinder guards for added protection at the digging end, as well as a hydraulic quick coupler and an integrated utility lifting hook.

The HX55ACR and HX60A models feature standard blade float for consistent backfilling and grading, while auto engine idle, standard on both models, optimizes fuel efficiency by reducing engine speed during idle periods.

Standard auto-shift travel speed facilitates efficient movement around the jobsite with seamless transitions between high and low travel speeds.

Specifications include:

  • HX17AZ: Operating weight 1,980 kg, dig depth 2.44 meters, bucket breakout force 3,668 foot pounds.
  • HX27AZ: Operating weight 2,478 kg (canopy configuration), dig depth 2.7 meters, bucket breakout force 4,613 foot pounds.
  • HX55ACR: Operating weight 5,715 kg, dig depth 3.86 meters, bucket breakout force 8,354 foot pounds.
  • HX60A: Operating weight 6,160 kg (standard cab configuration), dig depth 3.77 meters, bucket breakout force 9,461 foot pounds.

All models come with a five-year subscription to Hi MATE, Hyundai’s remote management system, enabling 24/7 global tracking and monitoring of engine, hydraulics, electrical systems, and other critical components for enhanced preventive maintenance and reduced downtime.
