JCB Electric Mini excavator

Working at night, don’t want to disturb the neighbors?

JESSUP has a solution for digging and trenching, an electric excavator.

CEA, Construction Equipment Australia, which supplies JCB agricultural, construction and industrial machinery to its client, mining giant Rio Tinto, has just installed a JCB mini-electric excavator in Perth, it’s the world’s first fully charged, all electric, nearly silent mini excavator.

“Rio Tinto is waiting for this opportunity to be delivered to Tom Place [ in Pilbara ] ,”said Reney, general manager of the mini excavator last week Says Renay van der Meulen. The mini excavator, still protected by a hydraulic cylinder, had just been trucked in from the port.

“They wanted to be able to use it at night without disturbing people, which is why they specifically specified an electric mode.”

The electric excavator has the same rubber track base, the same rope, fops and fog (roll-over protection system, falling-object protection system and falling-object protection system) , the same hydraulic arm, shovel arm and excavation accessories, and the same diesel engine JCB model of 2.6 m maximum excavation depth and dumping height.

But it leaves out engine noise, exhaust and fuel costs.

In the 19C-1E mini excavator, a three or four optional maintenance-free battery pack and a 48-volt electric motor and drive system replaced the usual diesel engine and mechanical transmission.

The battery charge monitor replaces the fuel meter in the information display.

“It’s going to be fully charged for five hours, in fact, it’s going to be a full day’s work, and generally the digging stops and the operators rest,”Mr. van der Merren said.

There are three charging options-two-hour quick charge, optional 380-420 V three-phase External Charger, 8 hours with 220-240 V car charger, 12 hours with 110 V car charger.

The battery pack can last 120 hours if the machine is left on accidentally when it is not working.

“Last year, we [ China Eastern ] bought one [ of the JCB mini-excavators ] but it was eventually sold to the eastern states,”Mr. van der Merren said.

“At Western Australia, we have a client who already has a mini excavator and can try out the electric car.

“He was very impressed with how he dug some trenches and laid some pipes.

“He says it’s better than the diesel model.”

In addition to electric excavators, Rio has bought rechargeable battery-powered locomotives to augment its diesel-electric train fleet in Pilbara.

Rio recently announced that it had ordered four battery-powered locomotives from US manufacturer WABTEC for delivery next year.

Rio said the four electric locos would help it meet its target of halving operating emissions by 2030.
