Volvo Construction Equipment has expanded its lineup of advanced machinery with the introduction of the upgraded EC300 and the newly launched EC260 excavator, replacing the EC250. Both models are part of Volvo’s next-generation series, celebrated for their innovation and efficiency, earning a spot in the 2024 Top 100 Awards.
These excavators are designed for superior performance and are equipped with an optimized electro-hydraulic system, smart cooling technology, and precise engine speed regulation. Together, these features improve fuel efficiency by 15% compared to earlier models.
Volvo EC300: Powerhouse for Demanding Projects
The 68,000-pound EC300 features a 260-horsepower Volvo D8M Tier 4f (Stage V) engine, incorporating Volvo Advanced Combustion Technology (V-ACT). This includes high-pressure fuel injectors, a turbocharger, and an air-to-air intercooler to maximize efficiency and performance.
Key specs for the EC300 include:
- Digging Depth: 24’ 1”
- Max Reach: 35’ 2”
- Bucket Capacity: 1.98 cu. yd.
- Breakout Force: 44,300 lb.-ft.
- Lifting Capacity: 19,158 pounds

Volvo EC260: Compact Yet Mighty
Replacing the EC250, the EC260 is a 59,000-pound excavator powered by a 231-horsepower diesel engine. With a maximum digging reach of 33’ 11” and a breakout force of 37,320 lb.-ft., it offers versatility for various applications.
Key specs for the EC260 include:
- Digging Depth: 23’ 2”
- Bucket Capacity: 1.73 cu. yd.
- Max Reach: 33’ 11”
Simplified Maintenance, Advanced Technology
The EC300 Hybrid introduces components like a hydraulic accumulator that reduces stress on traditional systems. Maintenance requirements for the hybrid system are minimal, focusing on standard tasks such as checking oil levels, filters, and hydraulic lines. Additionally, Volvo recommends using telematics to monitor machine health remotely.
Both models feature cutting-edge technology, including Volvo Smart View for 360-degree visibility, Active Control for automated movements, and an updated cab with a keyless start, enhanced mirrors, and ergonomic upgrades.
