Dhaka Metro Line 1 is set to become Bangladesh’s first underground metro project, marking a major milestone in the country’s urban transportation development. Indian engineering company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured two major design-and-build contracts covering track works, electrical systems, signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors. The awards build on L&T’s previous involvement in Dhaka Metro Line 6, Bangladesh’s first operational metro corridor.
The planned Line 1 network will extend approximately 31 kilometres across two routes. The Airport Route will connect Kamalapur with the international airport, while the Purbachal Route will link Natun Bazar with Purbachal Terminal. The project is expected to include 19 stations and a depot at Pitalganj, with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency
Although the latest contracts focus on railway systems rather than general civil construction, the wider metro development involves extensive underground works, station construction, tunnel excavation and supporting infrastructure. These activities typically require excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders and other heavy construction machinery for site preparation, earthmoving, material handling and foundation work.
Urban rail projects present demanding operating conditions for construction equipment. Excavators working around tunnel entrances, station foundations and utility corridors may operate for long hours in confined or abrasive environments. Bulldozers and loaders used for site preparation also face continuous workloads that can accelerate wear on critical components.
The undercarriage system is particularly important for tracked machinery. Track chains, bottom rollers, carrier rollers, idlers and drive sprockets work together to support machine movement, stability and traction. Excessive wear on these components can affect operating efficiency, increase maintenance costs and cause unexpected equipment downtime.
To maintain productivity, contractors should establish regular inspection schedules and replace worn components before they cause further damage. Checking track tension, monitoring roller and sprocket conditions, and selecting replacement parts that match the machine’s specifications can help extend equipment service life. Reliable parts supply is especially important for large infrastructure projects with tight construction schedules.
FL supplies a wide range of excavator and bulldozer undercarriage parts, including track chains, bottom rollers, top rollers, idlers, drive sprockets, steel tracks and track adjusters. Manufactured with attention to precision machining, heat treatment and durability, these components support heavy machinery used in construction, mining, roadbuilding and infrastructure development.
As Dhaka expands its metro network, reliable construction equipment will remain essential to delivering complex transportation projects. Contractors, machinery dealers and maintenance teams can reduce operational risks by planning parts replacement and sourcing dependable components in advance.
Contact FL to find suitable undercarriage parts for your excavators and bulldozers and support reliable equipment performance on demanding infrastructure projects.
